Abstract
During the westward drift of the ATS-6satellite in 1976, measurements were made, on the east coast of Newfoundland, of the received signal strengths of the satellite beacon at 4 and 30 GHz. Observations were continued for a total of about 50 h during the 11 day period in which the satellite rose from just below the horizon to about 10 deg above. Data analysis included signal strength distributions, medians, fading ranges and fading rates. No correlation was found between the fading of the two signals. Based on the measured values of fade depths, it is postulated that, for deep fades, the probability of a given fade depth is proportional to frequency. Fade depth statistics are compared with earlier data at 7.3 GHz which were measured at Ottawa.
Analyse
