A physical optics approach to near field RCS computations

Abstract

The scattered field of a perfectly conducting body treated using a physical optics approach is obtained in near field in either the monostatic or bistatic case. This approach opens new prospects for a broad range of applications in the areas of radar cross section (rcs) and antennas. Numerical examples for simple shapes (circular and rectangular plates) are given. Remarkable phenomena are found and discussed.

Résumé

La recherche d’une solution de l’optique physique pour évaluer la diffraction d’une onde électromagnétique, en champ proche monostatique ou bistatique, par un obstacle parfaitement conducteur, est ici traitée. Cette approche permet d’envisager une large gamme d’application, tant dans le domaine de la surface équivalente radar (ser) que dans celui des antennes. Des applications numériques sont présentées pour des cibles plates de géométries simples (formes circulaire et rectangulaire). Des phénomènes remarquables sont dégagés et commentés.
