Summary
Twelve cases of Melanosis Proetocoli have been reported. While the condition is relatively uncommon, it is by no means as infrequent as usually considered. The fact that it only can be visualized by sigmoidoscopy, again emphasizes the importance of a complete examination of the rectum and sigmoid in all cases coming under observation.
