Abstract
A method for controlling the difference frequency between two semiconductor lasers has been developed. The beat frequency is directly measured and current feedback applied to one laser to control this frequency. Stability to plus or minus 10 MHz was achieved. Applications include coherent optical communication systems.

L’article décrit une méthode destinée à commander la différence de fréquence entre deux lasers à semiconducteur. La fréquence de battement est mesurée directement et une rétroaction en courant est appliquée à l’un des lasers pour régler cette fréquence. Une stabilité de plus ou moins 10 MHz a été obtenue. La méthode est en particulier applicable aux systèmes de télécommunication optique à détection cohérente.
