Abstract

The combination of diazepam and pentazocine given intravenously was used in 60 patients for laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy. Xylocaine 4% was sprayed over the vocal cords for local anaesthesia. There was cardiovascular stability and initial depression of respiration. Undesirable side-effects were negligible. The advantages of the technique are discussed.
