Abstract

Though Sander’s technique of jet ventilation in a paralysed patient has considerably simplified the management of cases for removal of inhaled foreign bodies (F.Bs) and is almost used as a routine method it appears to be not safe and ideal under certain conditions. This is illustrated by means of a case report of a F.B. (tamarind seed) in the trachea in a child. It is felt that elective tracheostomy is a safer and sometimes life saving step in such cases.
