Abstract

Eighty one patients of subjective tinnitus aurium were studied to determine the indications for vasodilator therapy. The audiological characters of tinnitus were compared to the improvement obtained after stellate ganglion block. Low frequency, either too low or too high loudness and complete maskability of tinnitus indicated a good prognosis with vasodilators. The beneficial effect was more if the associated hearing impairment was due to a cochlear rather than a middle ear lesion. A decrease in the loudness of tinnitus as compared to that in its frequency was a better objective parameter of improvement in tinnitus.
