Abstract
Laryngotracheal mucosal injury and its sequelae following prolonged intubation has been extensively discussed in the literature. However, little has been reported regarding the changes due to short term intubations. In this study, 24 dogs were intubated for short duration and the early effects on trachea, type of mucosal changes, and its relations to the duration of intubation has been studied.
Widespread changes were found in the case of red rubber tubes. Damage was significantly less in case of P. V. C. (Portex) tubes. The extent of the injury was directly related to pressure over the tracheal mucosa.
