“Cerebrospinal rhinorrhoea and otorrhoea following head injury”

Abstract

Leakage of CSF through the Ear and Nose following closed head Injuries in 32 cases during a period of 4 years (1985 to 1988) were studied. The incidence of CSF fistula was foud in 15.2%. The incidences of CSF Otorrhoea and Rhiorrhoea were 9.5% and 5.7% repectively. Site of fistula could not be determined in 12.5% of cases. CSF fistula were associated with high incidence of Intracranial Haematoma (43.7%). Meningitis developed in 9.3% of cases. CSF Fistual was associated with high incidence of mortality (46.8%) and residual morbidity in the form of facial palsy, anosmia, impairment of hearing were found in 15%, 16.6% and 30% of cases respectively.
