Abstract
A new surgical technique for reconstruction of the stenosed cervical traches is described. In this operation, at first the scar tissue is removed from, the trachea creating a lumen. The tracheal lumen is lined with antral mucosa, placed isociliarily with respect to the trachea. A portex (PVC) tube is placed in the lumen. Then the sternohyoid muscles are isolated without severing the upper and lower attachments and leaving the nerve supplies to these muscles undisturbed. One or two transverse tunnels are created in the substance of each muscle and silastic bars, with convexity forwards, are inserted into the tunnel and the two muscles are stitched to each other in the midline, thus-burying the bars. The normal geodesic arrangement of the trachea is largely re-established by this operation. There is increase in both transverse and anteroposterior dimensions of the trucheal lumen following this operation.
