Abstract
The intact Eustachian tube is one of the most essential requirements for a successful tympanoplasty. Since clinical function tests do not provide satisfactory results in every case, the radiological examination of the tube becomes very significant. The technique, which we have employed since 1966 in 67 cases of transt/mpanic radiography of the Eustachian tube, is described. The most important indications for this examination are discussed (e.g., in cases of chronic middle ear suppuration, post-traumatic tube stenosis, and early diagnosis and clarification of tumours of the nasopharynx and middle ear). The transtympanic method is physiological, simple to perform, and it is essential for hearing improvement.
