Abstract
This is a report onthe acoustic impedance studies in posterosuperior retraction pockets and in myringoplasty cases (Type I Tympanoplasty). Tympanometry revealed B function in 17 out of 21 ears with a posterior pocket. The B curve does not necessarily mean the presence of fluid in the middle ear, instead it might indicate an adhesive process or simply mucosal oedema. The B tympanogram was also observed in a significant number (60%) of cases of grafted ear drum. The B function and absence of stapedial reflex observed in this group of cases has been attributed to the stiffness of the drum.
