A profile of carcinoma of the maxilla

Abstract

Seventy one cases of Carcinoma of the maxilla are analysed. It has been found that younger people in this country suffer from this disease more frequently than their western counterparts. As the earlier symptoms can be confused with the benign lesions in this region, patients usually present late for treatment, when the disease is advanced and the diagnosis is obvious. Trismus is one of the symptoms which was quite common. The role of combined radiotherapy and surgery in the proper management of these cases has been stressed. Splitting the radiotherapy dose before and after surgery has been found effective. Rehabilitation of the patient with proper prosthesis completes the management.
