GPS Comes handy for determination of heights

Abstract

Normal classical techniques of surveying could not be used in the area of Chilka lake dotted with islands. Requirement of establishing height control in these islands could be met using Global Positioning System (GPS) technique. The heights at 49 locations have been established with required degree of precision in a short span of time.
