Porenschuppen und Sinneslinien des ThelodontiersPhlebolepis elegans Pander

Zusammenfassung

Manche Schuppen («Porenschuppen») des ThelodontiersPhlebolepis elegans Pander aus dem Unter-Ludlow (Paadla-Schichten) der Insel Oesel werden von einem oder mehreren Kanälen durchbohrt, die sich auf der Innenseite der Schuppen rohrartig verlängern. Die Lage und die Anzahl der Kanäle beeinflussen nicht den normalen histologischen Aufbau der Schuppen, und sie verursachen keine pathologischen Veränderungen oder Resorptionen im Dentin der Schuppe. Sie entstanden gleichzeitig mit den Schuppen oder waren bereits vor der Bildung der Schuppen angelegt. An intakten Schuppenkleidern vonPhlebolepis sind Porenschuppen auf dem Kopf und dem Rumpf reiherartig angeordnet. Bei anderen Gattungen der Thelodontier sind bisher keine Porenschuppen beobachtet worden.

Die Kanäle der Porenschuppen werden als Zweigkanäle der Sinneslinien gedeutet. Damit wären erstmalig bei einem Thelodontier Sinneslinien nachgewiesen, deren weitere Erforschung an geeignetem Material vielleicht neue Kriterien zur Beurteilung der Stellung der Thelodontier im System der Agnathen liefern können. Der endgültige Beweis ist noch auf Grund des Materials der großenPhlebolepis-Sammlungen in New York (Patten-Sammlung) und Tallium (Luha-undBölau-Sammlung) zu führen.

Summary

Some scales (Pore-scales) of the ThelodontianPhlebolepis elegans Pander from the Lower Ludlow (Paadla Beds, Islands of Oesel) are penetrated by one or more channels which extend on the inner side of the scales in the shape of tubes. The position and number of these channels is quite arbitrary. In no way do the channels affect the normal histological construction of the scales and similarly they cause no pathological change or resorptiton in the dentine of the scale. They originate either simultaneously with the scales, or were formed before their growth. In cases of complete preservation of the scale-cover ofPhlebolepis one sees that the pore-scales are arranged in rows on the head and body.

Pore-scales have, as yet, be found on no other genera of Theolodontian. The channels of these pore-scales are interpreted as branch channels of the lateral organ. This would be the first case of a laterial organ having been found among Thelodontians. Further investigation of suitable material might bring new criteria for determining the systematic position of the Thelodontians among the Agnathans. Final confirmation must be left to a study of the largePhlebolepis collections in New York (Patten collection) and in Tallinn (Luha andBölau collections).
