Abstract
An underground exposure of the Petit Buisson Marine Band is divided into layers of equal thicknesses from which samples of equal weights are taken. In each layer all the fossils (fragments included) are classified according to significant groups and counted. Vertical variation charts and range diagrams are drawn. A comparison is made with a similarly sampled underground section located about half a mile away.
Conclusions are drawn regarding vertical and lateral variations in lithology and fauna, and the possibility of subdividing the Band into a number of phases corresponding to varying conditions of sedimentation and ecology.
