Abstract

Remains of a hynobiid salamanderRanodon cf.Sibiriens are reported from the Upper Pliocene (Early Villafranchian, mammal zone MN 16) of the Zaili Alatau Range, southern Kazakhstan. Vertebrae and limb bones of this form do not differ from those of the RecentR. sibiricus. This is the first fossil record of a hynobiid salamander.
