Summary
1.Silene Otites L. is probably heterogametic in the female for sex, and the relatedS. pseudotites is heterogametic in the male.
2. The hermaphrodites ofS. Otites L. behave as modified females.
3. The behaviour of these types and of their hybrids is discussed in relation to the general evolution of polyoecious and dioecious forms in angiosperms.
