Abstract

Abstract

A reconstruction method based on CT scout views to be implemented in the clinical routine is discussed. The planning procedure in which this method has been introduced is described.

The behaviour of the scout view images corresponding to 0 and 90‡ has been studied; measured data have been fitted to obtain the respective virtual focus positions; relationships are stated in which real point coordinates can be calculated from the intersection between lines joining the projections with their respective foci. The global accuracy of the reconstruction has been estimated to be within 1 mm. Scout views can be used to determine the position of the sources and traditional points of interest in Brachytherapy planning.

The method needs only a simple set of measurements and it is compatible with the use of metallic applicators. Information from the scout views and CT slices is coherent, and hence they can both be used together.
