Summary

Recently, the use of fiberbronchoscopy led to the study of some of the functional features of the lung, such as muco-ciliany clearance and some aspects of the regional pulmonary function (lobar or segmentary).

In the first case, fiberbronchoscopy makes it possible to study the motion speed of small teflon disks on the bronchal-tracheal surface; in the second case, it makes sampling of respiratory gases possible at lobar or segmentary level so that changes in gas concentration can be followed at any time during the whole respiratory cycle, in order to collect information on the functional behaviour of a given parenchymatous sector.
