Heterotopic gastric mucosa located in the rectum: a case report

Resumé

Un cas ďhéterotopie de muqueuse gastrique dans le rectum est rapporté chez un homme de trente sept ans. Une revue de la littérature a retrouvé vingt autres cas similaires: ľaffection touche le plus souvent des sujets jeunes, et se manifeste par des rectorragies et un syndrome rectal. C’est ľhistologie qui fait le diagnostic, il s’agit le plus souvent de tissu fundique. Ľulceration siègeant sur la muqueuse rectale de voisinage est une complication fréquente, sans rapport avec la pathogenie de ľulcère solitaire du rectum. Le traitement consiste en la résection de la lésion.

Summary

A case of heterotopic gastric epithelium in the rectum is reported in a 37 year-old man. Twenty other similar cases have been reported in the literature. This disease is found usually at a young age, clinical signs are rectal bleeding and a syndrome of proctitis. The diagnosis is based on the histological examination of biopsies, it usually shows fundic tissue. Ulceration of the rectal mucous membrane associated with heterotopia is a frequent complication, and seems to be unrelated to the solitary ulcer pathogeny. Treatment consists in resecting the lesions.
