Rectorragies du nouveau-né

Rectal bleeding in the neonate

  • Published:
Acta Endoscopica

Summary

The occurrence of rectal bleeding in the neonatal period is frequent and caused by multiple etiologies. Ulcero-necrotizing enterocolitis is the most serious cause but the rarest of rectal bleeding at that age. In most cases, rectal bleeding is benign and the situations evolves well spontaneously. Ecchymotic rectitis of the neonate and of the infant have only recently been described. Their diagnosis depends on endoscopy. The situation rapidly improves and does not necessitate stopping feeding. Several etiopathogenic hypotheses are being discussed at the present time.
