Summary
The retrospective analysis of 76 cases of hyperplastic polyps (Group A) and of 40 cases of «Early gastric cancer» (Groupe B), demonstrated that the association between cancer and gastric, polyps is frequent (6,8% of the cases of group A and 39,5% of the cases of group B).
Moreover areas of severe dysplasia were present in 2 out of 87 polyps in group A.
These observations do not support the general opinion that hyperplastic polyps of the stomach are benign lesions and arise some problems about the surveillance of the patients harboring this type of polyps.
