Summary

A 42-year-old male previously diagnosed as suffering from cirrhotic ascites and who had not responded to conventional diuretic therapy was admitted to our clinic for further examination. Laparoscopy with guided peritoneal biopsy allows us to obtain a final diagnosis of tuberculous peritonitis associated with liver cirrhosis. We discuss the role of laparoscopy with target peritoneal biopsy in the diagnosis and the management of this condition.
