Summary
Laparoscopic findings of the liver in 42 patients with primary biliary cirrhosis diagnosed by clinical, biochemical, immunological and histological data, were investigated.
Laparoscopy per se cannot reach a certain diagnosis of PBC because the macroscopic changes of the liver are non-specific in this illness.
Only, a combined approach (laparoscopy + guided liver biopsy + clinical data) leads us to an accurate diagnosis and staging and gives us the possibility of better foreseeing the progressive course of PBC.
