Cyto-histological correlations and clinical characteristics of 53 cases of early gastric cancer in Forli

Résumé

Les auteurs rapportent le resultat de l’analyse cytomorphologique et d’une étude de taux de survie, de 53 cas de cancer gastrique superficiel, diagnostiques dans le Département d’Oncologie entre 1971 et 1984.

Cette étude a subdivisé les groupes selon l’âge, le sexe et le ≪TNM≫, et analyse les corrélations cyto-histologiques dans les cas atteints de C.G.S. Elle démontre que l’association biopsie et cytologie sur prélèvements guidés perendoscopiques, atteint des degrés de sensibilité et de spécificité, respectivement de 0,91 et 0,97.

Les survies actuarielles montrent des pourcentages de survie à cinq ans et à huit ans, respectivement de 86,91 et 73,04%.

Les caractéristiques morphologiques et cliniques des 53 cas de C.G.S. ne diffèrent pas de celles rapportées dans la littérature, mais le taux de dépistage n’est pas satisfaisant, compte tenu du nombre élevé de cancers invasifs.

Les auteurs soulignent la nécessité d’entreprendre un programme de dépistage dans des régions comme Forli exposées, à un haut risque de carcinome gastrique.

Summary

The authors report the cytomorphological analysis and study regarding the survival of 53 cases of early gastric cancer diagnosed in the Oncology Department between 1971 and 1984.

The report, subdivided according to age, sex and TNM of the patients, analyses cyto-histological correlations in these E.G.C. cases.

In particular it is stressed that the biopsy combined with the cytology, using aimed collection during the endoscopy, reach a sensitivity of 0.91 and a specificity of 0.97.

The actuarial survival rate indicates percentage of patients living at five and at eight years of 86.91 % and 73.04 % respectively.

The morphological and clinical characteristics of the 53 cases of E. G. C. do not differ from those reported in Literature, but their detection is not satisfactory in relation to the number of advanced gastric cancers.

The authors point out the necessity to carry out aimed screening programmes, as Forli county is a high-risk area for gastric carcinoma.
