Sedative-induced hypoxemia in gastrointestinal endoscopy

Summary

The analysis of hemoglobin saturation data and electrocardiac activity in patients undergoing esophago-gastroduodenoscopic procedures revealed a slight incidence of extrasystolic episodes in patients treated with benzodiazepine; in the same group of patients, arterial desaturation in oxygen was greater. While chloromethyldiazepam produced less desaturation than diazepam, it also led to a greater increase in the cardiac rate.
