Comparison of laparoscopy and liver biopsy in cases of chronic hepatitis in children

RÉsumÉ

Dans une étude portant sur 64 examens histo-endoscopiques couplant laparoscopie et ponction-biopsie du foie effectués chez 49 enfants présentant une hépatite chronique, il a été possible de préciser l’apport de la laparoscopie. La laparoscopie est en effet indispensable pour préciser l’évolution cirrhogène; par contre, seule l’histologie apprécie le degré d’activité de l’affection et précise ainsi l’attitude thérapeutique.

Summary

In a study made of 64 histo-endoscopic examinations that coupled laparoscopy and needle liver biopsy carried out on 49 children suffering from chronic hepatitis, we were able to clarify the role of laparoscopy. Laparoscopy is indispensible in showing cirrhogenous evolution; but only histology can evaluate the degree of activity of the disease and indicate the type of therapy required.
