Conclusions

The present model for cosmic ray acceleration in flares is merely a special example of the following mechanism: statistical acceleration of charged particles in a conducting gas where turbulence isincreasing; the acceleration being due in part to induction, in part to elastic collisions with elements of the gas, the whole system tending to equipartition; incorporating a selection mechanism which allows only a few particles to be accelerated.
