Abstract
In this study 10 patients with biochemically documented hyperparathyroidism prospectively underwent Thallium/technetium subtraction scanning in an attempt to localise parathyroid gland enlargement preoperatively. Four out of seven (57%) parathyroid adenomas were successfully located using this method; the sensitivity of the test was 66% and the specificity was 94%.
