Summary
Twelve cases of Leptospirosis admitted to 3 general hospitals in South West Ireland between 1975 and 1981 are reviewed All were male aged between 23 and 65 years. They all had an agricultural background and no seasonal pattern was observed. The clinical course of the illness was severe in each case but there was no mortality in this series. Five required peritoneal dialysis and one a pericardial tap to relieve tamponade. Several patients have residual complications including hypertension and atrial fibrillation.
