Abstract
A case-control study comprising 134 male and 86 female cases from an orthopedic’s cabin examined occupational risk factors for osteoarthrosis of the hip. The controls (95 men, 103 women) steaming mainly from other physicians’ offices were free from musculoskeletal symptoms. Age-adjusted odds ratios (OR) were calculated for both sexes. In men elevated ORs were found for vibrations of the upper limbs (OR 2.2, CI 1.00–4.99), for whole-body-vibrations (OR 2.0, CI 1.04–4.20), working in a humid or cold environment (OR 1.9, CI 1.08–3.37) and for working in the metal industry (OR 2.5, CI 1.18–5.70). For women elevated ORs were found for working with heavy tools (OR 4.2, CI 1.32 -13.68), for lifting bonds up to 20 kg (OR 2.0, CI 1.02–4.08), more than 20 kg (OR 1.9, CI 0.83–4.79), and for working in supermarkets (OR 2.6, CI 0.95–7.10).
