The topography of cardiac infarction

A study of 150 cases in Ireland

  • Published:
Irish Journal of Medical Science (1926-1967)

Summary

150 patients with established cardiac infarction were studied to determine the site of the lesions in the heart.

Electrocardiographic criteria for the diagnosis of infarction are reviewed.

In this topographical study of cardiac infarction 19 sites are discussed. The typical ECG changes associated with necrosis at these sites are briefly reviewed. The genesis of these ECG changes is commented upon.

The topographical features of cardiac infarction in this group of Irish patients are compared with findings in comparable investigations carried out in the U.S.A. and in Mexico.

It is hoped eventually to study possible correlations between the site of infarction in this group and such features as prognosis or predisposing causes.
