Massive jejunal diverticulosis and subacute combined degeneration of the cord

Summary

A case of massive jejunal diverticulosis is described. The condition was complicated by small intestinal bacterial overgrowth which lead to steatorrhoea, vitamin B12 deficiency and subacute combined degeneration of the cord. Conventional treatment may not completely eliminate the abnormal microflora. In severe jejunal diverticulosis with neurological complications long term replacement with vitamin B12 is recommended.
