Placenta praevia: A clinical survey

  • Published:
Irish Journal of Medical Science (1926-1967)

Conclusions

The free use of soft tissue radiography and blood transfusion coupled with complete bed rest in hospital for all cases of placenta praevia should reduce the maternal mortality to zero and the perinatal loss to under 10 per cent. The only active measures likely to be required are simple rupture of the membranes or lower segment Caesarean section. Quite a considerable portion of cases will not require active interference at all.

Our most sincere thanks are due to our hospital colleagues, to our resident doctors and nurses, and to our laboratory staffs for their work in these cases.
