Cancer mortality in the Republic of Ireland: A changing pattern

Summary

A study of cancer deaths over the past twenty years and occurring in the Republic of Ireland has been undertaken. The results have been compared with a similar study carried out ten years ago. The study shows that there is an over-all decline in cancer deaths amongst middle-aged persons. The study shows an increase in cancer deaths during the last twenty years in the population 75 years of age and over. Cancer of the respiratory system has shown a marked increase. Deaths from cancer of certain sites have become markedly reduced.
