Summary
Spontaneous reversion to sinus rhythm from long-standing atrial fibrillation is described in 4 patients, who had undergone Starr-Edwards mitral valve replacements some years previously. The reversion to sinus rhythm was spontaneous and did not follow electrical conversion or change in drug therapy. The change to sinus rhythm did not appear to benefit the patients clinically and was not accompanied by echocardiographic evidence of left atrial contraction.
