Summary

  1. 1.

A double-blind clinical trial of Potensan Forte (comprising methyl testosterone, yohimbine, pemoline and strychnine) against placebo, two months each assigned randomly, was carried out on 25 primarily impotent males. Pre-trial, urinary testosterone was assayed in 15 subjects.

  2. 2.

Although there was an unmistakeable trend towards improvement on Potensan Forte which reached a maximum on 2 capsules t.i.d., this reached statistical significance on only one variable and was comparatively short lasting; at a one year follow-up the patients were worse than at referral.

  3. 3.

There was no relationship between pre-trial androgen status and the treatment response. It was suggested that improvement was “nonspecific” being due to the non-steroid components of Potensan Forte, especially the C.N.S. stimulants pemoline and strychnine.
