Summary
Plasma haemoglobin levels have been measured using a micro-technique in blood collected from skin stab wounds and by venepuncture from 25 human subjects. It was found that there was significantly greater haemolysis (P<;0.001) in drops of blood from the skin puncture wounds when compared with venous blood similarly treated. This finding confirms by a different technique previous evidence that red cell damage occurs during haemostasis and suggests the possibility that red cells could play a contributory part in the arrest of bleeding.
