Diffuse myelomatosis with massive cryoglobulinaemia

  • Published:
Irish Journal of Medical Science (1926-1967)

Summary

A case of massive cryoglobulinaemia associated with diffuse myelomatosis is presented. The main clinical features were an undue sensitivity to cold with Raynaud’s phenomenon, although purpura developed in the terminal stages. Further clinical manifestations described by other workers are mentioned and the differential diagnosis from high titre cold haemagglutination discussed. Treatment with corticotrophin (A.C.T.H.), venesection followed by transfusion with sedimented red cells and heparin, did not produce any significant or lasting effect. The patient developed signs of cardiac defeat and died in extreme respiratory distress.
