Ineffective erythropoiesis in a case of Di Guglielmo’s syndrome

  • Published:
Irish Journal of Medical Science (1926-1967)

Summary

A case of erythroleukaemia was observed through three phases: erythroid hyperplasia, an intermediate myeloid and erythroid proliferation and finally frank myeloblastic leukaemia.

The association of the patient’s occupation, an aniline dye worker, and erythroleukaemia is discussed.

A ferrokinetic study revealed initial marrow activity with an 8 per cent maximal red cell utilisation and an increased plasma turnover. The picture was considered to be typical of ineffective erythropoesis.
