Abstract
Only if active immunisation against tetanus becomes universal can tetanus be completely eradicated. It behoves a practitioner to ensure that all children in his practice are offered active immunisation and that all those who work in occupations in which contamination with tetanus spores is a liability, should be offered active immunisation. Any patient who is known to have received tetanus antitoxin should receive active immunisation and there is no doubt that adsorbed toxoid is superior to fluid toxoid for this purpose.
