Summary
IRRITABLE bowel syndrome sufferers have a normal premorbid personality profile. Site or sites of major symptomatology is independent of premorbid personality and such personality does not influence short term prognosis. Previous studies showing increased anxiety levels in irritable bowel syndrome patients were based on post morbid personality assessments.
