Management of a widowmaker

Summary

We report a case of extensive, rapidly progressive ileo-femoral thrombosis with a long, free floating extension into the inferior vena cava. The management of what is potentially a very lethal situation, utilising the Kimray Greenfield filter placed in a suprarenal position, is discussed.
