The doctor’ dilemma: Systemic candidiasis

  • Brief Report
  • Published:
Irish Journal of Medical Science Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Two fatal cases of systemic candidiasis, occurring in immuno-compromised patients are presented. This report was prompted by the observation that although the diagnosis was proven at autopsy, there was ante-mortem evidence suggestive of disseminated mycosis in each instance. A resumé of laboratory methods which may assist in diagnosis is given, together with a restatement of diagnostic criteria and recent trends in therapy.
