Summary
Cytohormonal assay was carried out on smears taken from the lateral vaginal wall of 100 asymptomatic postmenopausal women attending a public health clinic. Using the maturation value as an index of oestrogen activity, the mean value for varying age groups was determined. It is suggested that any gross deviation from this mean value could be considered abnormal.
