The use of curare in abdominal surgery

  • Published:
Irish Journal of Medical Science (1926-1967)

Conclusion

In conclusion I would like to express my thanks to my two assistants, Dr. Edna Powell and Dr. P. de Burgh Whyte. They have given a number of the anaesthetics included in this series, and have followed the patients through the postoperative period. Our impression confirms those already expressed that in curare we are possessed of a most powerful and valuable adjunct to anaesthesia. Whilst realising that the careless use of so potent a drug would be most unwise we believe that, properly used, it considerably reduces both the discomfort and the risk of anæsthesia.
