  1. The “Central Treaty Organization” comprises Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and Great Britain. The USA is represented only in a few committees. CENTO is successor to the Bagdad Pact. The coup d’état in Irak in 1958, following which that country left the organisation, made the renaming necessary.
