Simulationen der Radioaktivitätsausbreitung im Meer aufgrund der französischen Kernversuche im Südpazifik

Zusammenfassung

Im Rahmen der “Internationalen Studie zur radiologischen Situation bei den Atollen Mururoa und Fangataufa” ist die Ausbreitung radioaktiver Konzentrationen im Meer mit Hilfe von Ozeanmodellen prognostiziert worden. Unter der Annahme, dass infolge der überwiegend in tiefen Erdschichten durchgeführten Kerntests Radioaktivität zur Erdoberfläche aufsteigt und sich dann im offenen Meer ausbreitet, wurden verschiedene Dispersions-Szenarien im Ozean untersucht.

Die Simulationen sollten Aufschluß darüber geben, wie und auf welchen Wegen die radioaktiven Konzentrationen infolge der Meeresströmung und Vermischung transportiert werden und ob hierdurch in bewohnten Gebieten auf benachbarten Inseln sowie an den Küsten ferner Kontinente Risiken für die Bewohner zu erwarten sind.

Ergebnis: Die prognostizierten Konzentrationen im Meer sind geringer als die normalen Hintergrund-Konzentrationen und von keiner radiologischen Bedeutung.

Summary

In the “International Study of the Radiological Situation at the Atolls of Mururoa and Fangataufa” the spreading of radioactive concentrations in the South Pacific Ocean has been prognosticated by means of ocean models. Under the assumption, that, due to these nuclear tests in the deep underground, radioactivity would gradually migrate up towards the earth surface and subsequently disperse in the marine environment of the open ocean various scenarios were considered.

The simulations were to provide information how and along which patthways the radioactive concentratios would spread and diluted by currents and micing in the oceans. The model results focus especially on the potential threat of increasing radioactive concentrations of sea water around populated islands neighbouring the test atolls and near distant continents vordering the South Pacific.

Results: The prognosticated radioactive concentrations in the ocean due to the French underground nuclear tests are everywhere less than normal background levels and of no radiological significance.
