Summary
New endeavours like soft modelling, robust approaches, stochastic partial information, fuzzy sets and so on are taken as inducement to inquire into the possibilities and limitations of an adaptive statistical methodology. A methodology is called adaptive if it rests on weak and realistic assumptions and if it can be adjusted to the kind and quality of data on the one hand and to the respective pertinent theory (economics, biology etc.) on the other.
